Seasonal Adaptation
In India, weather conditions change drastically. A management style that works in winter will fail in summer.
Summer (March - June)
- Risk: Severe heat stroke and respiratory stress.
- Action: Increase ventilation. Activate foggers. Paint roofs white. Lower stocking density by 10%. Feed only during early morning and late evening.
Winter (November - February)
- Risk: Ascites (Water in belly) and ammonia buildup.
- Action: Proper curtain management is critical. Keep curtains closed at night for warmth but open the top 1 foot for ventilation. Stir litter frequently to prevent wetness.
Monsoon (July - September)
- Risk: Coccidiosis and Fungal toxicity (Aflatoxins).
- Action: Use toxin binders in feed. Keep litter dry using drying agents (lime/zeolite). Check for roof leaks. Acidify water to prevent bacterial growth in high humidity.
Post-monsoon (October) is typically the easiest season with moderate weather, leading to the best FCR of the year.
