Feeding for Profit
Feed represents the single largest expense. Managing transitions between phases ensures steady growth without wasting expensive high-protein rations.
Feed Phase Table
| Phase | Days | Protein % | Consumption (g/bird) | Cost/kg |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-Starter | 1-10 | 22-23% | 165g | ₹48 |
| Starter | 11-20 | 21% | 375g | ₹45 |
| Grower | 21-32 | 19% | 1410g | ₹41 |
| Finisher | 33-42 | 18% | 1800g | ₹39 |
Best Practices
- Storage: Keep feed bags on wooden pallets, 1 foot away from walls to prevent moisture absorption and fungal growth (Mycotoxicosis).
- Transition: When switching from Starter to Grower, mix them 50/50 for one day to avoid digestive upsets.
- Distribution: Feed should be distributed at least twice a day to encourage intake and ensure all birds have access.
- Wastage Check: Ensure feeders are never filled more than 1/3 full to prevent bill-out wastage.
